We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to speed websites up even further. As proxies can significantly impact traffic routing, we wanted to look into it and see if there’s a way to harness them. We decided to try out residential proxies in different locations and do some testing to see if this approach can mitigate the delay.

We tested IPRoyal proxies across tens of thousands of websites and achieved a success rate of over 95%. It was a substantial improvement over our previous average of 80%. A success rate this high gave us the confidence to rely on IPRoyal’s solutions rather than building our own proxy layer in-house.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are 5G/4G/3G/LTE mobile proxies?

Mobile proxies get their IPs from mobile carrier networks such as Verizon and T-Mobile. They route your traffic through real mobile devices, and carriers share each IP among many subscribers (CGNAT) – that's what makes mobile proxies so rarely blocked. Specific network generation (5G/4G/3G/LTE) mobile proxies simply provide you with better speed, connectivity, or reliability.

Can mobile proxies be detected?

Any proxy can be identified, but mobile IPs have some of the lowest block rates. Because carriers share each IP among many real subscribers, websites treat mobile traffic as highly trusted, so mobile proxies are at least as effective as residential proxies and less likely to be blocked than datacenter proxies. The main exception is unreliable free mobile proxies.

What is the difference between mobile and residential proxies?

Some call both types residential proxies, as both use IPs that consumer internet providers assign to real users, unlike datacenter proxies. Residential proxies usually come from home broadband connections on desktops, laptops, and similar devices, while mobile proxies use smartphones, tablets, and modems connected to cellular networks. Because carriers reassign IPs as devices reconnect or switch cell towers, mobile proxies also change IPs more often.

Is there a bandwidth limit with mobile proxies?

It depends on the mobile proxy type you purchase. IPRoyal's rotating mobile proxies are priced per GB you purchase and have no other usage limitations. Dedicated mobile proxies are priced per day with unlimited concurrent sessions and a daily data limit of 30GB per proxy.

Do your proxies prevent blocks?

Yes, but no proxy provider can guarantee a completely block-free experience, as your actions, fingerprint, and use case also have an impact. Irresponsible web scraping, for example, can get you banned regardless of mobile proxy quality. Nevertheless, high-quality mobile proxies are widely considered one of the best ways to reduce blocks.

Can I get a free trial?

We do not offer a free trial at this time. Instead, you can test a dedicated mobile proxy server for 24 hours. With minimal mobile proxy costs, you can test 5G, 4G, 3G, and LTE connectivity, protocols, sticky sessions, manual IP rotation, and other features without the limits of a free trial.

Can I ask for a refund?

You can request a replacement or a refund within 24 hours after purchase for any of our services, mobile proxies included. This applies if you can't connect or run into service issues that our support team can't resolve within 24 hours, as long as usage stays below 500 MB on dedicated plans or 100 MB on rotating plans. The refund conditions for rotating and dedicated mobile proxies differ.

How much do mobile proxies cost?

Mobile proxy pricing typically ranges from $6 to $9 per GB. The prices vary based on the provider, type of proxies, and purchase quantity. Mobile proxies cost more than residential or datacenter proxies because each IP depends on carrier data plans and real SIM-connected hardware. When you buy mobile proxies from IPRoyal, dedicated plans start at $10.11 for 24 hours, while rotating plans range from $6.80 to $5.20 per GB depending on volume. We also offer custom pricing for enterprise-scale projects.

Are mobile proxies legal?

Yes, mobile proxies are legal in most countries because they are simply tools that route your data through mobile carrier networks. Legality varies by use case. Public data collection and ad verification are generally lawful in most jurisdictions. Using proxies for illegal activities, such as fraud or web scraping login-protected data without permission, is illegal.

What's the difference between 4G, 5G, and LTE proxies?

Mobile proxies differ by the cellular networks their modems use. LTE is the mobile network standard behind most 4G connections on mobile devices, while 3G is older and mainly serves as a fallback. 5G is newer and has lower latency, but it's still relatively rare for mobile proxies. All types provide a mobile carrier IP shared with real mobile devices, so websites treat them the same way as regular mobile traffic.

How do I use mobile proxies on a phone?

On a phone, a proxy is simply a server that relays your device's traffic through another IP address. Find your mobile proxy credentials in the IPRoyal dashboard and set them up in your Wi-Fi or mobile data settings. You can also use other proxy types, such as residential or datacenter proxies. Each device is a bit different, and some apps might ignore system proxy settings. For a step-by-step mobile proxy setup on Android, check this proxy setup guide.
